Mashed potato how They do it in Ireland

Cooking method: Steam
Serves: 2

Time: Quick - less than 30 minutes
Difficulty: Easy - a child could do it

Equipment

  • Masher
  • Saucepan
  • Steamer

Ingredients

  • Condiment, cube, or tube
    • Vegetable stock - 1
  • Eggs / cheese / dairy
    • Butter - some
    • Cheese (grated) - some
    • Milk - some
  • Vegetable
    • Garlic (chopped) - some
    • Onion (spring) - some
    • Potatoes - some

Method

Chop the potatoes into slices (it doesn't matter how, they just cook quicker and are easier to mash like this), and put them on to steam. Whilst they're doing that chop the spring onions into 1cm pieces.

When they're almost done, melt a mahoosive chunk of butter in the saucepan, and soften the garlic. Transfer the potatoes to the saucepan on a low heat, and pour in a splash of milk, making sure you don't pour in too much; also crumble in the stock cube.

Mash and mix until it's the consistency you like it to be, adding more milk if necessary. Add the chopped spring onions and mix together, leaving on a low heat to soften them slightly. Grate the cheese in, mix, and serve.
